“Turkey will join the European Union and become a model for a Democratic Islamic State and lead the way for advancing relations between the Islamic world and "Western World"”

Turkey is Islamic, but it is also European. Rome and Constantinople(Istanbul) where the two centres of Europe as the Roman Empire split in two. Europeans, who fear the influence of an Islamic culture or have historic bias' from conflicts with the Ottoman Empire will realise that integrating with Turkey is a far surperior option to rejecting them and allowing the influence of fundamentalists on a largely secular state. But it will take time and the latest wave of enlargement will have to be absorbed first and be seen to succeed
