The moon has a value in the thousands of trillions of dollars. Trends are such that nobody likely would be able to stop China should they make such a claim. They are preparing to return to the moon at this time. There is no international law that will prevent them from making such a claim, including the 1967 Space Treaty, which they can withdraw from at any time. The world will not go to war with China to prevent such a claim being exercised. Therefore, it seems inevitable that China will make this claim and gain the prize of the moon.
