Chris Hitchens is currently battling esophageal cancer that has spread to his lymph nodes. Statistically, the 5-year relative survival rate for a human being with this stage of esophageal cancer is 20%.

Chris appears to be at a major intersection in his life. He suspects his death could now be possibly accelerated relative to other people who do not suffer from cancer.

He clearly wishes to live and beat cancer as demonstrated by his recent chemotherapy treatment.

Deep in his heart, I predict Chris knows that probably no human being, chemo treatment or any other scientific advance can relieve him of his suffering and provide him a real cure, e.g. permanent cancer remission and a long healthy life as though he never had cancer unless his faith in God is mercilessly unleashed and Chris admits all of his sins to God and others publicly.

This public confession could take the form of a book outlining the details of his sins in a safe, responsible and eloquent manner or a video blog on Chris' website in which he surrenders all of his sins, one by one, to God and the public and invites Christ to take the wheel in his life.

Matthew 15:11: "What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.'"

John 8:32 - "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Matthew 10:39: "Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."

The above verses that Jesus uttered demonstrate giving up being right (John 8:32), surrender (Matthew 10:39) and the impact of making people - one's self or others - wrong (Matthew 15:11) - all of which Chris may or may be aware the impact of on his life.

If Chris confessed his out-of-integrity behavior relative to the 10 Commandments as well as his deepest and darkest, even "embarrassing" secrets hiding in all the corners of his heart and mind to God and other human beings via his website, accepts Christ as his Lord and Savior, I assert that he will increase the effectiveness of his chemo-treatments thousandfold and be permanently healed from cancer.

Nothing short of a miracle of God will actually heal his cancer permanently and reinstate Chris with a long, healthy life. Chris needs a miracle. Miracles aren't provided to puny human intellects seeking their "own truth". Miracles aren't fueled by self-righteousness. Miracles aren't granted to those who refuse to surrender.

Chris' act of surrender, giving up being right and making amends to God and others for his words and actions, can only be accepted if he genuinely does this, rather than facetiously, hypothetically or for show.
